San Francisco Oakland Bay Bridge (SFOBB) Pile Caps

Vigor provided fabrication and assembly of E-2 Pile caps and connecting girders for SFOBB. Each pile cap weighed 1,131 tons and included pipe sleeves for the piling to be driven through and welded to the sleeve. Each of the sixteen sleeves for the E-2 foundation were 3 meters in diameter and 5.8 meters in height made from 89 millimeter plate. This required rolling the plate into cylinders fitting and welding of the heavy plate. After cylinders were welded they were fit into the main assembly, this created the massive structure that supports the east end of the new bridge.
