Emsworth Lock and Dam Lift Gates

Vigor was the fabricator for the Emsworth lock and dam lift gates on the Ohio River. The gates are fabricated with carbon steel and function similarly to a bulkhead or caisson to hold back the flow of water. They weigh approximately 110 tons. The gates are raised and lowered via hydraulic cylinders and a roller system allows operation during the full flow of the river.
